 Following the publication of issue number 21 of Japanstudien on “Ageing in Japan”, the journal of the German Institute for Japanese Studies will undergo a few changes: As of 2010, the journal will change its name, publisher, and publication frequency. Volume 22, entitled “Mind the Gap: Stratification and Social Inequalities in Japan”, to be published in October 2010, will be a double issue; after that the journal will appear in two issues, spring and autumn. Under its new name Contemporary Japan, the journal will be published by Mouton de Gruyter, Berlin and New York.
As hitherto, the journal accepts submissions by scholars of any relevant academic discipline. Each volume features a main topic, which is announced in the annual call for papers. In addition, the journal also solicits and welcomes articles on any topic related to Japan, as well as book-reviews on Japan-related academic publications. All submissions are peer-reviewed by established scholars in the field.
As of volume 22, Contemporary Japan has a new editorial board. The members are John C.
