Individualität und Egalität im gegenwärtigen Japan: Untersuchungen zu Wertemustern in bezug auf Familie und Arbeitswelt (Individuality and Equality in Present-Day Japan: An Examination of Value Patterns in Relation to Family and Working Environment)

This volume presents the results of the first stage of a research project on value transformation in Japanese history since 1945. A general introduction deals with methodological and theoretical problems and with the significance of the topic within the context of social transformation in Japan. It is followed by an analysis of the frequency distributions of a survey conducted by the DIJ on values and attitudes concerning individuality and equality in family and working environment. The subsequent progression analyses are based on Japanese surveys and statistics on individualization and gender equality in the family, gender equality in the working environment and equality in Japanese companies. The content of Japanese junior high school textbooks on civic studies and of legal sources on gender equalization in family law is also analysed. The volume is concluded by a multivariate statistical analysis of the DIJ survey. Through this data analysis, the dimensionality of values and attitudes as well as a categorisation of value patterns in present-day Japanese society can be determined. The appendix provides copious material from the DIJ survey.
