Jan Felix von Alten

Jan Felix von Alten studied Law with a focus on German and International Private and Procedural Law including a specialized language training for Japanese law at the Universities of Düsseldorf, Trier and at Aoyama Gakuin University. His doctoral studies deal with the so-called public policy reservation in German and Japanese Private International Law.
During his research stay at the DIJ, Jan Felix von Alten will review and evaluate case law on his research topic and obtain the perspective of practitioners and legal practitioners on the topic in order to gain a comprehensive picture of the theory and practice of the public policy reservation in Japanese Private International Law. The research examines when Japanese courts reject the generally prescribed application of foreign law and which reasons are decisive in the area of conflict between national values, individual case justice and systemic coherence of private international law.
