The Japanese Empire in East Asia and its Postwar Legacy (Japans Kolonialreich in Ostasien und sein Vermächtnis für die Nachkriegszeit)

Die historische Bedeutung des japanischen Kolonialreiches im Kontext einer Zeit die durch Imperialismus, Nationalismus, Modernität und Krieg beeinflußt wurde, war Gegenstand dieser Konferenz. Die Vortragenden, überwiegend jüngere Wissenschaftler aus Europa, Asien und den USA, ist es unter Heranziehung bisher unbekannter Primärquellen gelungen, neues Licht auf verschiedene Aspekte der Beziehungen Japans zu Ostasien zu werfen.

Die Konferenz gliederte sich in drei Themenbereiche: das innenpolitische Fundament des japanischen Imperialismus, die Arbeitsweise des japanischen Reiches in Ostasien und das Weiterwirken dieses historischen Vermächtnisses in der Nachkriegszeit.

Aus der Konferenz ist Band 22 der Reihe „Monographien aus dem Deutschen Institut für Japanstudien“ entstanden: „The Japanese Empire in East Asia and its Postwar Legacy”.
