Moderne japanische Literatur in deutscher Übersetzung. Eine Bibliographie der Jahre 1868-1994 (Modern Japanese Literature in German Translation, 1868-1994)

Arranged alphabetically by author and title, the volume lists 1,200 German translations of 1,032 modern Japanese literary prose works by 300 authors. Four indices: Japanese titles, German titles, anthologies and periodicals, translators.

Entries contain the name of the author in Hepburn transcription and in the original Japanese; the author’s birth and death dates; the date of the first publication and of [Akutagawa and Naoki] literary prizes; the title of the translation; the translator; publisher, location and date […] The entries are consecutively numbered; reprints of a work are grouped under one number. There are occasional annotations and an instructive preface that also lists the numbers of translations by decades (most were published between 1970 and 1994). There are indexes of the Japanese and German titles, of the original sources (including anthologies and periodicals) and of the translators.
