ドイツ人の見た元禄時代－ケンペル展 (Engelbert Kämpfer - Ein Deutscher sieht das Japan der Genroku-Periode)

This catalogue has been edited by the German Institute for Japanese Studies (DIJ) in collaboration with the Suntory Museum of Art, Tōkyō, the National Museum of Ethnology, Ōsaka, the Yokohama Archives of History and the Nagasaki Prefectural Museum for the exhibition on occasion of the 300th anniversary of Engelbert Kaempfers landing in Japan. It includes detailed descriptions in Japanese and German of the 107 exhibits, and considers the historical background and the effects in Europe of Kaempfer’s work on Japan and of his collection. It also remembers the work of Kaempfers precursors Andreas Cleyer and Georg Meister. The critical studies were written by B. Bodart-Bailey, Y.-Y. Brown, E. Kraft, J. Kreiner, T. Moriya, Y. Nagazumi, H. D. Ölschleger und S. Sakakibara.
