Nach Kapiteln zu den grundlegenden demographischen Entwicklungen werden in vier weiteren Abschnitten die Implikationen für Gesellschaft, Kultur, Politik und Wirtschaft Japans aufgegriffen. Im Einzelnen untersucht werden zum Beispiel Veränderungen in der Struktur von Familie und Partnerschaft, die Themen Medien, Erziehung und Tourismus im Alter, ebenso wie Reformen in der Familien- und der Zuwanderungspolitik oder auch Neuregulierungen von Arbeitsmarkt und Rentensystem.
